At A&P our mission is to help people prepare for the inevitable disasters and emergencies that plague our modern world. Our philosophy is that such preparation is two pronged: It includes gathering emergency supplies and undergoing emergency response training, but it also includes developing an awake and aware mindset, one that enables us to respond to crises before they develop and maybe even to prevent them altogether. Preparation without awareness is wrongheaded. Awareness without preparation is pointless.
We also believe strongly that going it alone is not effective. Although individuals must take responsibility for preparation of self and family, emergency prep is not about holing up in a bunker with weapons. Worthwhile and successful emergency prep involves building alliances and teams and cooperating at every level, from neighborhood to nation.
A&P’s founder, Sarah Lane, has been writing about social issues for decades. She is in charge of Community Outreach for Bainbridge Prepares, an organization comprised of more than 750 volunteers that in 2022 was named national Emergency Management Voluntary Organization of the year by the International Assoiciation of Emergency Managers. Lane is a member of the National Information Officers Association, the Washington State Emergency Managers Association, the International Association of Emergency Managers, and the Washington State Preparedness Group. Her background in emergency prep includes blogging about prep, more than twenty years of response team participation, and the following trainings and certifications:
